Earlier in Term 2 the Leaders made their way into town to St. Cuthberts Church. The church often hosts community lunches where they kindly donate the proceeds back into the community. Our leaders go down and assist in the preparation and service of the meals. They are treated to a delicious hot lunch themselves before the epic cleanup at the end.
More recently they visited the Waka Garden on the main street where they did some weeding and a general clean-up, and planted a couple of new plants.
Community Service helps our young leaders to connect positively with their community, and provide an opportunity to apply their learning to real life activities.
The whole school engaged in a range of meaningful learning to celebrate Matariki week. The children are very fortunate to have access to a wide range of art medium, skilful teachers, and learning areas to create an expansive array of artworks.
We celebrated our first open assembly (post zoom assemblies) with a display in the hall.
We were very fortunate to enjoy some hands on experience with these fantastic cars this morning - between showers of rain!
For many this was a very new experience and it was nice to see them happily chatting away to the owners. There was a challenge to see how many children they could fit into the boot of one car, which was very large, whereas another barely had enough space for a packed lunch! Some lucky students were even offered a turn about the court.
Many thanks to the vintage car club for including us in your outing. It was very enjoyable.
